Title: 2025-E RESEARCH ASSISTANT PREDOC
Position: Research Assistant (Pre-Doc)

Description: CEMFI invites applications for one research assistant position to work in the project “Movements of Firms and Households across Cities (CITYMOVES)”. The positions are funded by Proyecto PID2023-153374NB-I00 financed by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033, whose Principal Investigators are Professors Nezih Guner and Diego Puga.
Deadline: 08/08/2025
Duration: 12 months
Salary range: 20,000-25,000 euros gross a year.Research Assistant Tasks:
- Analysis of survey and administrative data.
- Numerical simulations of structural models (calibration and estimation)
- Conduct literature reviews.
- Assist the PIs in other aspects of the project.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor or Master degree in economics or related fields.
- Strong quantitative skills.
- Knowledge of Julia, Matlab, Python, and Stata.
- Excellent management and organizational skills.
- Meticulous, organized, and detail oriented.
- Flexible, self-motivating, independent, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Proficient in English. Knowledge of Spanish is not required.
- Strong interest in academic research.
- Previous experience as a research assistant will be valued.
- Able to legally work in the European Union.
Job conditions:
- Full-time position.
- The job will be based at CEMFI facilities in Madrid.
- Salary: Between 20,000 and 25,000 euro/year gross remuneration.
- Duration: One year from September 1, 2025 (further 6 months or a one-year extension is possible).

Title: 2025-G RESEARCH ASSISTANT PREDOC
Position: Research Assistant (Pre-Doc)

Description: CEMFI invites applications for a 1-year full-time Research Assistant position (Pre-doc). Candidates should have a strong interest in research in macroeconomics. You will work under the supervision of Professor Sebastián Fanelli in collaboration with Professor Kurt Mitman on two research projects. The work will relate to a variety of topics at the intersection of international macroeconomics, portfolio choice, and heterogeneous-agent macroeconomics. You will use a combination of statistical analysis and structural modeling to help contribute to the projects. The projects are funded by grant RYC2021-03498-I, financed by the MCIN/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTRI, and UE /Grant PID2023-153327NB-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF, UE, whose Principal Investigators are Professors Sebastián Fanelli and Kurt Mitman.

- Excellent knowledge of MATLAB and statistical software (Stata, R or Python)
- Proven organizational ability and attention to detail.

- Strong interest in academic research.
- Previous experience as a research assistant will be valued. - Able to legally work in the European Union

Description: CEMFI invites applications for a 1-year full-time Research Assistant position (Pre-doc). Candidates should have a strong interest in developing software solutions for economically relevant problems – in particular, those related to energy and climate economics. The work will relate to several research projects in the areas of Energy and Environmental Economics and Industrial Organization carried out at EnergyEcoLab. The position is funded by the European Research Council Advanced Grant ERC-2023-ADG Project 101142583 — ENERGY-IN-TRANSITION, entitled 'Socio-Economic Challenges and Opportunities of the Energy Transition,' led by Professor Natalia Fabra, and by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación Grant CPP2024-011557 — IMPACT, entitled ‘Integrated Modelling for Physical Assessment of Climate Threats’.

Salary range: 38,000 euros gross a year.Roles and Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain software for simulating energy markets and low-carbon investment strategies.
- Integrate CI/CD pipelines to streamline product delivery to end users.
- Conduct software testing and generate quality reports using SonarQube.
- Support research team members across various aspects of project development and execution.
Desired qualifications and experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering. Knowledge of database management systems such as Java, Python and SQL. Knowledge about energy markets and finantial metrics will be valued.
- Strong quantitative skills. Excellent knowledge of R, SQL and Python, and use of libraries such as Pandas and Numpy.
- Knowledge of web design would be an advantage.
- Previous work experience required.
