CEMFI organizes a summer course on “Current issues in the labor market” at UIMP in Santander

17 April 2024

The First CEMFI School of Economics on “Current issues in the labor market” will take place at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) in Santander on 1-3 July 2024. The course directors are Samuel Bentolila and Nezih Guner. It will deal with three highly topical issues in the labor market.

First, we will provide a framework to understand different types and measures of intergenerational labor market inequality, its causes, and its consequences. Second, we will review the downward trend in the labor market outcomes of youth in Spain and discuss potential remedies, focusing on dual vocational education. And third, we will study the factors behind the changing family patterns in industrialized countries, focusing on female labor force participation and fertility.

The course is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students in Economics. Depending on the availability of slots, the students could be invited to attend the 3rd Banco de España-CEMFI-UIMP Conference on the Spanish Economy, on “Spain’s productivity and labor market performance and the (lack of) convergence to the EMU”, on 4-5 July 2024.

The program is available here and the period for application to scholarships endowed by UIMP finishes on 26 April 2024.
