Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for the PhD in Economics is 1,740 € per year. This amount may be adjusted by a limited amount, following regulations of the Spanish education authorities.

Scholarships

PhD students are normally fully funded, by an internal or an external scholarship, so that they can devote themselves to research full time.

Our scholarships provide a monthly stipend for two years, renewable for a third or fourth year, and they also cover tuition fees. During the academic year 2009-2010 they amount to 14,400 euros per academic year.

The status of PhD student at CEMFI requires the provision of a small amount of research assistance, of up to ten hours per month. Students may obtain additional funding through more intensive research assistance or teaching assistance. The teaching consists of problem set classes for some of the courses in the Master program.

Some institutions which award external scholarships to Spanish and some also to non-Spanish students are: Banco de España, Fundación ICO, Fundación Rafael del Pino, Generalitat de Catalunya, Gobierno Vasco, the Spanish Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y Cooperación and the Spanish Ministerio de Trabajo e Inmigración (Becas Reina Sofía).

After enrolling in the PhD program students can also apply to a scholarship from the Spanish Ministerio de Educación.
