The Undergraduate Summer Internships provide outstanding students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in economic research and data analysis at CEMFI in Madrid.
Summer interns have the opportunity to enhance their analytical, computational, and interpersonal skills in the cosmopolitan and friendly atmosphere of a leading international centre for research and graduate study in economics and finance. The summer program also allows participants to learn about opportunities for graduate study and a career as a professional economist.
The program is intended for undergraduate students with a superior academic record, who would like to gain useful work experience in economic research before pursuing further studies or moving on to the labor market. Students should be enrolled in Spanish universities or other universities in the European Union or countries associated to Horizon 2020. The program runs from mid-June to the end of July. The duration of an internship is four weeks of full time dedication. Interns will receive a stipend.
As a summer intern, responsibilities may include:
In addition to their daily tasks, summer interns attend presentations hosted by CEMFI’s faculty and PhD researchers. Activities include a short course on big data managing and computing in the social sciences, mentoring about graduate student opportunities, and summary presentations of research projects at CEMFI.
The program is very competitive and its size is limited. Applicants must have a strong academic record and a demonstrated interest in economics, public policy or finance. Excellent communication and computer skills are essential, as well as a good command of the English language.
Applicants who have completed the third year of college by the beginning of the internship are eligible. Applicants must be enrolled in a four-year degree (or have just completed a three-year degree) that involves a strong quantitative training such as Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, or quantitatively-oriented Social Science.
The application process for the 2017 summer internship program is now open. The deadline for submitting an application is 15 March 2017. An academic transcript must be submitted with the application, together with a statement of purpose, proof of English proficiency, a curriculum vitae, and a recommendation letter from a teacher or professor.
